Tibooburra is in the Unincorporated Area of New South Wales. That means there is no local council. Most functions of the town are managed and run by community members. The community formed the Tibooburra Village Committee Inc. (TVCI) in the 1990s. TVCI acts as a link between the community and government agencies and oversees town projects and management. Other organisations including Tibooburra and District Progress Association, Parents and Citizens Association, Sports Club and Country Women’s Association all contribute to the town’s needs. It has been this way since Tibooburra’s inception and the locals wouldn’t have it any other way.
