The Family Hotel
It really is a family affair at The Family Hotel with publicans Melissa and William Thomson and some their grown children working together to welcome visitors to this iconic outback pub! Built in 1882 the pub has a long tradition as an oasis welcoming visitors in this dry and remote place.
In the 1960s famous Australian artist Clifton Pugh and some of his friends called Tibooburra home for a while. During that time artworks and murals were rendered on many of the walls in the hotel. This tradition has continued into recent times with new murals added by contemporary artists including Roxanne Minchin. No trip to Tibooburra and the Corner Country is complete without seeing these artworks in person. Some are a bit, well, bawdy, so consider yourself warned… Enjoy a drink and a meal while you’re here.

Tibooburra Hotel – the ‘Two Storey’
Unusual for the time, in the late 1800s, the very first licensee of this hotel was a woman. Today times have changed but the tradition of leading women lives on. Today’s publican is also a woman whose family held the licence a couple of generations back. Family tradition of hospitality is alive and well.
Check out the new refurbishments currently underway after the dramatic fire which engulfed this historic pub in 2020.
Call in for a drink and a meal. Stay overnight in the newly built accommodations. Have a chat with your hosts about what to see and do while you’re here. The beer is always cold and the meals are delicious!
